Areas of Practice

Local Government, Planning and Environmental Law

Planning and environment legislation is extensive and ever changing. As a key legal advisor to a regional Council and with a combined experience of over 12 years, we are well placed to advise you in this most complex and dynamic area of legal regulation in New South Wales.

Our solicitors regularly appear in the Land & Environment Court of New South Wales and, for more complex matters, we have developed a strong relationship with experienced counsel who specialise in this area.

Many of the disputes that arise within this field can be resolved without recourse to litigation, when the right expert advice is obtained. We maintain a healthy working relationship with a number of experts (planning consultants, surveyors, environmental, water and civil engineers), all of whom are leaders in their respective fields, to ensure that the right practical, as well as legal, advice is provided.

We can advise and represent you in relation to all planning and environmental concerns, including:

  • Development applications and consents, easements and covenants, objections and appeals to the Land & Environment Court of New South Wales;
  • Civil enforcement and criminal proceedings instituted in the Local Court and Land & Environment Court of New South Wales;
  • Subdivisions, strata titles and community management schemes;
  • Local Government planning, policies, schemes and financial management;
  • Compulsory land acquisition, planning and compensation;
  • Environmental risk management and contaminated land matters;
  • Classification and re-classification of land and the use and management of Crown land;
  • Advice on water, stormwater and the regulation of sewerage treatment;
  • Advice and drafting of agreements between Local and State Government bodies and private organisations, including public-private partnerships; and
  • Administrative law and Freedom of Information.
